Online Events for Architects During Quarantine – May 2020

One of the good things of being ‘stuck’ at home right now is the resources that people are sharing online with the wider community. I attended a great online talk by Tristan Wong of SJB last week and loved listening to his musings on planning and design within two small-lot Melbourne developments. I’ve always loved going to different architecture talks and it’s so good to have so many online now so we can partake from all around the country.

There’s actually quite a few different free talks / movies etc happening this month. These are some of the ones I have found:

Mon 04.05 Design Talks: Lee Yang Yang of Philip Stejskal Architecture talks with SONA about things he wishes he knew after graduation. Find out more here.

Wed 06.05 GL[E]AM Quarantine: Seeing Sound: Psychoacoustics of Work and Play exploring the experiential and behavioural impact of sound on the human experience, organised by Hayball. More info here.

Thurs 07.05 The Architects Bookshop Isolation Talk No 9: Philip Vivian of Bates Smart is going to share some of his Sydney urban investigations. More info here.

Fri 08.05 Archiflix and Brickworks are delivering their inaugural ‘online film festival for the design industry’. The first night’s movies are City Dreamers, following the story of four architects examining the transformations of the urban environment; and  Gray Matters, sharing the life and architecture of Eileen Gray. Find out more here.

Tues 12.05 The Architects Bookshop Isolation Talk No 10: Phillip Arnold is going to share his experience in pursuing architectural excellence. More info here.

Wed 13.05 As part of its ‘Architects at Home’ series, Brickworks is hosting Hannah Tribe of Tribe Studio Architects. More info here.

Fri 15.05 Archiflix and Brickworks are delivering their inaugural ‘online film festival for the design industry’. Find out more here.

Fri 22.05 Archiflix and Brickworks are delivering their inaugural ‘online film festival for the design industry’. Tonight’s movies are Renzo Piano – The Architect of Light, following Renzo Piano during the design of the Botin Centre; and  The Infinite Happiness, exploring BIG’s 8 House urban development model. Find out more here.

Fri 29.05 Archiflix and Brickworks are delivering their inaugural ‘online film festival for the design industry’. The final set of movies are If You Build It, which is brilliant for those who haven’t seen it, following a group of students as they literally create their own learning within their community; and Visual Acoustics, following the life and photos of influential architectural photographer Julius Shulman. Find out more here.

Happy learning (online)!
